Maldivian escape: Maalifushi

A special refuge in the Indian Ocean, Maalifushi is a luxury hotel set in the Thaa Atoll of Maldives. Covered in tropical vegetation and surrounded by vibrant marine life (including whale sharks and manta rays) Maalifushi is a perfect destination for families, couples, surfers and scuba divers.

Designed by the Japanese architect Koichiro Ikebuchi, the resort was opened in 2014 by the COMO Hotels and Resorts group. Maalifushi offers 6 Rooms with an outdoor deck, 26 Suites/Villas with private pool, terrace, living area, outdoor bathroom and direct access to the beach, all of which are located in the tropical garden. On the water there are 33 Suites/Villas with private pool, terrace, living area, separate dressing area and a jetty with direct access to the turquoise lagoon. All rooms have simple and elegant interiors. The two water COMO Villas have a private butler.

Maalifushi has 3 different restaurants with diverse cuisine: the Madi (meaning manta ray) serves Mediterranean, Indonesian and Thai dishes, the Tai (meaning red snapper) is a Japanese restaurant with fresh, local seafood and the Thila Bar (named after Maldivian reef) serves salads, seafood, pizzas and Turkish pidé in a friendly environment. Guests can also enjoy a private dining experience in their room or at special locations on the island.

The COMO Shambhala Retreat Spa, perfect to relax and recuperate, has an open-air yoga pavilion, steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi. Guests can enjoy massages, body treatments, daily yoga, Pilates and meditation classes or exercise in the gym.

The island, is perfect for swimming, snorkelling, surfing or doing a scuba diving course. The hotel staff organizes dhoni (local fishing boat) excursions, aqua-safaris and by request picnics on a private beach.
